Supplement line items

What is supplement line items?

The specific items added to a claim through a supplement — the missed materials, code work, and underpriced entries that bring the scope up to the real job.

Definition

Supplement line items are the individual entries you add to the carrier’s scope to make it match the actual roof. Each one has a code, a quantity, and a price, just like the items already on the estimate.

The usual suspects are ridge cap, drip edge, starter strip, ice-and-water shield, steep and high charges, additional layers, detach-and-reset items, and code upgrades. Many are routinely missed or underpriced on the first scope.

Identifying the right line items — and backing each one with a photo, a measurement, or a code reference — is the whole craft of supplementing. Get it right and you’re paid fairly for the work you’re actually doing.
