Ridge cap
What is ridge cap?
The finishing shingles that cap the peak of the roof — often priced as standard shingles or left off the scope entirely.
DefinitionCatch missed line items
Ridge cap shingles are the specialized pieces that cover the ridges and hips where two roof planes meet. They’re thicker and cost more than field shingles, and they’re required to finish the roof properly.
Carriers often either leave ridge cap off the scope or price it as ordinary three-tab shingles, which understates the cost. Either way, it’s money the job is owed that the first estimate misses.
Correcting ridge cap pricing or adding the missing line item is a routine supplement. A quick measurement of the total ridge and hip footage backs it up.
