ITEL report

What is an ITEL report?

A lab test that identifies a shingle and whether it’s still available — the evidence that often justifies a full roof on a matching claim.

Definition

ITEL is an independent testing lab that carriers and roofers use to identify a roofing material from a sample. The report names the manufacturer and product and states whether it’s still in production and reasonably available.

On a matching dispute, an ITEL report is powerful. If the lab confirms the shingle is discontinued or no longer available, it’s hard for the carrier to argue a patch will match — which supports replacing the full slope or roof.

Roofers order ITEL tests when a repair-versus-replace fight hinges on availability. The objective, third-party result takes the argument out of opinion and into documentation.
