What is door knocking in roofing?
Approaching a homeowner at their door to offer a free roof inspection after a storm — the individual conversation inside a canvassing route.
Door knocking is the conversation itself: walking up, knocking, and earning enough trust in about ninety seconds to get on the roof. Canvassing is the plan; the knock is the execution of it.
The goal of a knock is almost never to sell a roof. It is to book an inspection. Reps who try to close at the door get doors closed on them, because a homeowner who has not seen their own damage has nothing to agree to yet.
Knocking is legal nearly everywhere, but it is regulated in a lot of places. Many towns require a solicitor’s permit, most enforce posted no-soliciting signs, and federal rules give the homeowner three days to cancel a contract signed at their door. Knowing that is part of doing it professionally.
